Main Scripture: Joshua 1:1–9 (KJV)
“As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
Throughout Scripture, we see how God called ordinary people into extraordinary assignments. Moses was chosen to lead Israel out of bondage, but his journey was anything but easy. He faced rebellion, criticism, disobedience, and the burden of leading people who didn't always appreciate what God was doing through him. Yet Moses remained committed to the assignment, even knowing that he would not be the one to take them across the Jordan.
What stands out to me is how God had already prepared Joshua for what was coming. Joshua served faithfully under Moses, but his confidence wasn't established simply because he had been trained by a great leader. It came when God spoke directly to him and assured him that the same presence that sustained Moses would be with him. Joshua had been chosen, prepared, and equipped for the responsibility ahead.
We see this same principle with Elijah and Elisha, Paul and Timothy, and Deborah and Barak. God called them into different responsibilities, but obedience and dependence upon Him remained essential. The calling was never about the title or recognition. It was about fulfilling God's purpose, regardless of the opposition or sacrifices involved.
I believe we need to understand that being called by God doesn't exempt us from hardship, nor does the anointing mean everyone will accept or appreciate our assignment. But when God calls us, He also equips us. Our responsibility is to remain faithful to His Word, endure what comes with the assignment, and never forget Who sent us.
The servant may change, but the God who calls and anoints His servants remains the same. We must continue carrying the bloodstained banner of Jesus Christ, not for our glory, but for His.
